The author - Izabella Gustowska, a multimedia artist - searched for her Josephine -
an independent, contemporary woman in the summer of 2013 in NYC.

A prototype for her heroine is Josephine Hopper, an artist and wife of an American painter -
Edward Hopper.
Fragments of paintings for which she posed and quotations from her diaries, in which she
was fighting for her freedom and personal dignity, are presented through the minds of
13 contemporary New York women, juxtaposing past and present.
A Victorian morality model is confronted with a contemporary model of post-feminist
era behaviors.
Traces of memory from Hopper's painting return to places and situations, in which they
could have happened on the time axis of the past and the present, and they adopt a concept
of "recreativity".
An open question remains whether the author found her Josephine during one hot summer
in 2013.
